What is Infant Massage?
Infant massage is a way to provide a physical and emotional link between infant and parent. Using the TRIAD Family Model (TM), infant massage “promotes healthy infant, child, and family development while strengthening the family unit and bonding process to endure a lifetime.” The components of nurturing touch, compassionate communication, and a safe, positive, creative environment makes up the TRIAD Family Model (TM).
Infant massage can provide relief to daily stress or discomfort from constipation, trapped gas, or teething to your infant. Massaging babies approximately 15 minutes a day can help to increase circulation, promote relaxation, aid the digestive and respiratory systems, and relieve muscle tension. Infant massage can be a great way for fathers, siblings, grandparents, and other caregivers to be involved with the new baby in a loving way that can be enjoyed by both adult and child.
The practice of infant massage includes a combination of relaxing strokes, light kneading, and gentle squeezing. It uses the same strokes that parents all over the world have practiced for generations.
This is a simple, yet enjoyable practice that you and your baby can share together.
